#228: 8/2/12 - 10/2/12 Zoey - the newest joy to my ever so joyful month :-)

The week was a drag as we… no, wait, I, waited to bring home our new puppy, which at this stage was not Zoey, but instead a toss up between Eden (after Mt Eden Dubstep…. yes, blame the boys) and Riley; a name that had a nice ring to it.

I joined Rob halfway through the week in Tauranga as he was there for work and enjoyed the beautiful weather they always seem to have. I also indulged in a bit of TV at the hotel (The Ellen Show, Rachel Ray etc.) as we don’t have our TV hooked up at home at the moment - something about a bad aerial.

Throughout the week, sleep became a huuuge problem the closer to Friday we got, I just found myself up later and later each night from the excitement of a new puppy! And by Thursday night we were also 100% sure on a name; ‘Zoey’ - Rob likes it because of Zooey Deschanel and I like it for the same reason but also because of the meaning behind it - ‘life’. It just fit so well with everything we both hope to do this year - in general to make the most of life.

So Friday morning came and was the drive up to Auckland - to head back home and to pick up Zoey. She was so excited to see me again, as was I to see her, but I felt awful as I knew I was about to take her away from her mum and brother and sister who were still in need of a home (she was in a litter of 5). She did not like her travel crate at all (which was missing a door… don’t ask) and ended up peeing in it from being so nervous. Then she cried - very loudly. And because there wasn’t a door, she crawled out of her crate and over to my lap. I pulled over 3 times to put her back on the passenger seat, sans crate but she kept crawling back. Soooo… I gave in, I know! Worst thing to do, but if she gave you those puppy dog eyes, you wouldn’t be able to resist either. Trust me, she’s a killer with her cuteness.

After a long drive of 80-90k’s in the slow lane on the motorway (I had to be semi responsible here, with a distraction/puppy in my lap and all..) we finally reached home. She had a sniff around, a toilet stop, a little play, then a visit to the vet before being left at home with her papa so I could head off to run an errand.

When I got back home we had a rotisserie chicken with the flatmates and a couple of other friends - all of which seemed to love the meal :) The chicken was perfect; moist on the inside and crispy, golden skin on the outside! Mmm-Mmm! I totally recommend rotisserie anything. The roast veggies were also a success, which for some odd reason weren’t the last time :/

Anyway, back to our girl; Zoey’s first night was awful, we all got little sleep. She would cry every two hours in her crate :( but as I write this six days later, I will boast like a proud mummy and say she can sleep all through the night now and ‘knock on wood’ has had no accidents in bed yet; crate training - highly recommend it :) I can’t believe how sweet she is, sure, she is teething and chewing EVERYTHING and hasn’t got the hang of toilet training yet but other than that, she is perfect, she make’s us laugh everyday and is such a cute fluff-ball! You bring us so much joy my honeypot! :)
